Welp, it's that time of the week again, folks; Sunday is here and that, rather unfortunately, makes tomorrow Monday. Sunday does bring us two great things that we all undoubtedly enjoy, though: football and, of course, the LNO Theater Rewind.
If you're new to the LNO Theater, here's what it's all about. I like to play racing/car documentaries with the comp screen off when I fall asleep and I've amassed a fair collection of them from around the internet. In that vein, I am going to start a new series called "LNO Theater" (Late-night Oppo).
I post a different video or part of a series once or twice a week to keep the early and midweek doldrums at bay and you can think of it like the FP's "Sunday Matinée" except for it will be longer in most cases and will usually be around twice as often. Feel free to make suggestions on what you'd like to see or not see more of as I get more into this (and certainly feel free to toss some extra goodies in if you happen to know of some that may be more obscure).
On that note, welcome to the 2nd LNO Theater Rewind (the applause you're now erupting into and the tears you're holding back are both appreciated and unnecessary). Here you will find a repost of all videos from the past week as well as their intros.
1) LNO Theater — Rolls Royce and the Indian Princes

So last week was all about racing so I figured this week we could slow some things down and just have some interesting car videos.
Tonight we have 'Rollahs' from the turn of the century and a few decades later being used as not only a show of wealth and power to the local natives but also to their controlling empire's diplomats. Thank you BBC4 and MSP for this little ditty via Daily Motion.
On that note, getcha popcorn and turn your phones on vibrate. Turn down the lights and turn up the volume! Welcome to the LNO Theater. Enjoy:

2) Gordon Murray — designer of McLaren F1
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Gordon was really just a nobody from South Africa when good old Bernie plucked him up and put him in charge of designing F1 cars for him. While he was there he didn't really do much other than design the BT46, 49, and 52 — the last two were both driven to world championships by Piquet and the 46 is more affectionately known as "the Fan Car."
Murray then moved on to McLaren as technical director, carrying over his designs from Brabham into what would become possibly the most iconic car in F1 history MP4/4 (give Nichols his due, though). Murray was TD for McLaren through 2006 and oversaw 6 WDC and WCCs. While acting as TD for McLaren, Murray also headed the offshoot "McLaren Cars" where he designed the little heard of and generally uninteresting !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Over the past decade, the King of speed had turned his attention in a slightly different direction, designing the small econobox !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , 28, etc. Don't let that fool you, though, the old boy hasn't lost a step and just needed a new challenge. Watch and learn about them all with this wonderful little piece, again from our friends at the Beeb and via live link.

3) Sir Jackie Stewart: not just A. N. Other racer.

In honor of Sir Jackie stopping by and answering some

earlier today, I found it fitting to make him the subject of tonight's LNO Theater. I'm not really sure I could sell Sir Jackie any better than he's already done himself, but I can try.
With his long hair and the greatest sideburns in motor sport, Jackie was certainly from the 'porn star' years of F1's golden era. He shared a flat with Jim Clark and vacationed with Graham Hill. He was a three time WDC who drove in a time when, I think my math is right, 3 out of 5 drivers died. Towards the end of his career, there was no one who could question neither the heft or size of his gentleman's knockers which probably was the main reason he was able to effect a safer sport than he ever had. When Sir Jackie started racing, most tracks were lined with trees instead of barriers, there was no dedicated medical staff and hardly any medical personnel at the track, and any crash was certain to end in the car turning into a flaming death-pit. It truly was a different sport than it is now.

Tonight's LNO Theater will feature two pieces — one will be a look at Jackie's youth and racing career (for those who aren't as informed as you'd like on the Scotsman) and one will feature what the old boy is up to today. Thanks to the BBC, MSP, Sky Sports, Daily Motion, and Vimeo.

I watched the Gordon Murray one earlier this evening, and I'd recommend it to anyone on oppo. It's very well done, and holy shit Gordon Murray is a genius
